Tatis Jr. leads Padres to 6-0 victory over Cubs.

The San Diego Padres defeated the Chicago Cubs 6-0 with contributions from Fernando Tatis Jr.'s two homers and small ball tactics. The Padres also received good news that Rougned Odor, who was helped off the field the previous night, may avoid the injured list. Yu Darvish bounced back with seven shutout innings, scattering two hits and striking out nine. The Padres are currently closer to last place in the NL West than .500, but Odor's recent performances have been key for the team.

Manny Machado returns from injury for Padres.

The San Diego Padres lost 2-1 to the Chicago Cubs in their first game back at Petco Park after a nine-game road trip. Manny Machado returned to the lineup for the first time since May 15, but the Padres struggled to hit Cubs starter Jameson Taillon, who earned his first win of the season. Rougned Odor, who had played a significant role in three of the Padres' past six victories, left the game with a left groin strain. Despite the return of their "Big Four" lineup, the Padres were booed by the home crowd as they fell to their 11th loss in 15 games.

Fernando Tatis Jr. evaded a pick-off throw and is the rare athlete that can do something awesome even when doing nothing at all. The Padres will face the New York Mets on Wednesday.

Padres Add Odor and Tapia to Roster

The San Diego Padres have selected Rougned Odor and Domingo Tapia for their Opening Day roster, while also adding David Dahl to the 40-man. To make room, the Padres designated Michel Báez for assignment and placed Adrián Morejón on the 60-day injured list. Joe Musgrove, Robert Suarez, Drew Pomeranz, and José Castillo will all start the season on the 15-day injured list. Odor impressed in Spring Training and could see some right field work until Fernando Tatis Jr. returns from suspension. Tapia averaged around 98 MPH on his fastball and posted a 1.76 ERA in 30 2/3 innings with Triple-A Las Vegas.
