McIlroy grabs BMW Championship lead after late surge
Rory McIlroy shot six-under 66 to take the clubhouse lead in round one of the BMW Championship, saying a bit of good work with swing coach Michael Bannon and caddie Harry Diamond helped him rediscover form. After turning two-under, he birdied the 13th and closed with three of the last four holes, joining Gary Woodland, Wyndham Clark, JJ Spaun and Chris Gotterup at six-under. Ryo Hisatsune was five-under, with Alex Fitzpatrick, Michael Thorbjornsen and Ludvig Aberg on four-under in a crowded leaderboard; Scottie Scheffler, the world No.1 and defending champion, bogeyed early as he lagged behind after a rough start, while Robert MacIntyre was two-under after withdrawing from St Jude earlier in the week.
