American Airlines Trims Routes in Qatar, Mexico, and Tulum Amid Geopolitical and Financial Pressures
American Airlines has cut three major routes this year, including its longest non-stop flight to Doha, citing geopolitical unrest and weak financial performance. The carrier also dropped service to Tijuana, Mexico, and Santa Maria, California, while planning to reduce frequencies in Tulum, Mexico, starting in 2027. These cuts leave Qatar Airways as the sole non-stop operator between the US and Qatar, and reduce American’s presence in Tulum to a single daily flight.
