Dutch media exposé of 'dictatorship' culture triggers independent probe at Picnic-PostNL
Dutch WorldTour team Picnic-PostNL has commissioned an independent investigation into its internal culture after a joint report by NOS Sport and In De Waaier alleged a long-standing atmosphere of fear and authoritarian control. The investigation, which interviewed 71 current and former staff members, claims that sports director Rudi Kemna and owner Iwan Spekenbrink created an 'unsafe working situation' where dissent was punished. While the team rejects the overall narrative, it acknowledges the seriousness of the accounts and promises to implement necessary improvements. Key figures, including former rider Martijn Tusveld and coach Adriaan Helmantel, described the environment as a 'dictatorship' that led to mental health issues and silenced critical feedback.
