Pole-Touch Landing: United 767 Clips Turnpike Pole on Newark Approach
A United Airlines Boeing 767-400 on final approach to Newark Liberty International Airport clipped a light pole on the New Jersey Turnpike, damaging a tractor-trailer and injuring its driver. The aircraft landed safely with 221 passengers and 10 crew aboard, and no passengers or crew were injured; the truck driver was treated for minor injuries and released. United said its crew has been removed from service and maintenance will investigate the damage as operations resumed after a quick debris check.
