Workman refused to change their statement that praised the recent Hamas attacks and was later seen covering up Israeli hostage posters with stickers advertising a school walkout. Despite facing public outcry, Workman reiterated their support for Hamas and refused to condemn the group. The next day, around 300 NYU students participated in a pro-Palestinian rally, including Workman. The rally attracted attention for anti-Semitic signage, and NYU is working to identify those responsible. Workman's comments led to the rescinding of a job offer from a law firm and calls for their removal as the president of the Student Bar Association.
