25-Car NASCAR Crash Halts Coronado Race as Track Repairs Take Center Stage

In the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series race at Naval Base Coronado, 25 cars were involved in a massive crash after a restart, triggering a 43-minute red flag to repair a wall that had been pushed back. Sam Mayer, Anthony Alfredo and many others were out of the race, though no serious injuries were reported. Austin Hill won with a last-lap pass over Taylor Gray after the chaos, following an earlier opening-lap incident with a manhole cover. The event drew sold-out crowds for the weekend.

Mayer’s restart crash sparks 23-car San Diego pileup

Sam Mayer clipped the inside wall on lap 35 at San Diego, sending across the nose into Anthony Alfredo and triggering a violent 23-car pileup that forced NASCAR to red-flag the race and, later, replace a damaged section of Turn 1’s outer wall in about 45 minutes. Mayer was uninjured and apologetic; Alfredo was sore but OK. A fan was arrested during the stoppage. Among those damaged were Labbe, Creed, Love, Allgaier, Smith, Sawalich, Crews, Jones, Hill, Burton, Thompson, Jeb Burton, Poole, Sieg, Pardus, Clements, Perez, Green, Honeyman, and Alfredo. Mayer attributed the crash to aggressive restarts in crunch time and said he’ll learn from it.

"Sam Mayer Triumphs Over Ty Gibbs, Secures Victory at Watkins Glen"

Sam Mayer wins the Xfinity Series race at Watkins Glen International after spinning race leader Ty Gibbs following a late restart. Mayer's second victory in four weeks came after Gibbs dominated the road-course race, leading 70 of 86 laps. Sheldon Creed finished second, with Parker Kligerman, Ross Chastain, and Connor Mosack rounding out the top five. John Hunter Nemechek took over the points lead from Austin Hill, who spun late and finished 14th. Gibbs, who had altercations with Mayer in the past, brushed off any conversation with his rival and expressed disappointment at being cleaned out. Riley Herbst lost ground in the race for the final playoff spot due to mechanical issues. The Xfinity Series heads to Daytona International Speedway next.
