"Iran Frees Imprisoned Spanish Citizen Santiago Sanchez in Humanitarian Gesture"
Iran has released Spanish national Santiago Sanchez, who was detained while attempting to walk to Qatar for the World Cup, as a "humane" gesture. Sanchez had been missing since October 2022 and was last seen at the Iraq-Iran border. His release follows that of another Spanish national, Ana Baneira, in February 2023. The Iranian Foreign Ministry cited human mercy and legal proceedings as reasons for the release.
