The Football Bowl Subdivision Oversight Committee has recommended establishing a standardized start date for the college football regular season to align schedules across conferences and provide consistency for teams, broadcasters, and fans.
The FBS Oversight Committee backed a plan to standardize the football regular season to 14 weeks (12 games with two byes), starting in Week 0 and ending the Saturday after Thanksgiving; conference championships and the Army–Navy Game would stay on standalone weekends. The proposal moves to the Division I Cabinet in June and, if approved, would take effect in 2027, aiming to add postseason flexibility and align with ongoing playoff considerations.
