Sony Pictures Entertainment led a $100 million investment in Cosm, taking a minority stake and a seat on Cosm’s board as the company expands its domed ‘shared reality’ venues that marry live sports and film. Cosm has opened locations in Inglewood and is planning additional sites in Atlanta, Dallas, with Cleveland and Detroit on the horizon, as SPE deepens its strategy to blend IP, technology and immersive fan experiences.
Warner Bros. Discovery and Cosm are partnering to create immersive "shared reality" dome venues in Los Angeles and Dallas, where sports fans can watch select live sports broadcasts in an immersive experience that replicates being at the game. The venues will feature 360-degree, 8K LED screens and use multicamera productions to simulate a courtside or rink-side view without the need for headsets or glasses. The focus will be on live sports and programming, including NBA, NHL, and soccer matches. The first venue will open in Los Angeles in spring 2024, with plans for more domes in other cities.
