Veteran NFL coach Sherman Lewis dies at 83

Sherman Lewis, a Michigan State All-American who later became a longtime NFL assistant and offensive coordinator for the 49ers, Packers, Vikings, Lions, and Washington, has died at 83. A three-time Big Ten track champion and 1963 Heisman finalist, Lewis started his pro career in the CFL and AFL before a lengthy coaching career that included 13 years at Michigan State and a prominent stretch as Green Bay’s offensive coordinator under Mike Holmgren.

Former Packers, Vikings, and Dante Scarnecchia honored by Pro Football Hall of Fame

Former Green Bay Packers assistant coach Sherman Lewis, video director Al Treml, and equipment manager Bob Noel were honored by the Pro Football Hall of Fame as recipients of the Awards of Excellence for 2023. The Awards of Excellence recognize significant contributors to the game in categories such as assistant coaches, athletic trainers, equipment managers, film/video directors, and public relations personnel. Lewis served as the Packers offensive coordinator during their Super Bowl-winning season in 1996, Treml was the team's film/video director for 34 years, and Noel was the first full-time employee in the team's equipment department.
