Mass. Ballot Campaigns Clear Hurdles, Move Closer to 2024 Goals

Six Massachusetts ballot question campaigns have cleared an important hurdle for the 2024 election by submitting the required number of signatures to local election officials. The campaigns cover a range of issues, including auditing the Legislature, legalizing psychedelics for therapy, raising the tipped minimum wage, eliminating the MCAS exam as a graduation requirement, allowing rideshare drivers to unionize, and reclassifying gig workers as independent contractors. The campaigns have collected over 100,000 signatures each, with some exceeding 130,000 signatures.

Ohio Marijuana Legalization Measure Falls Short of November Ballot, Activists Given 10 Days to Collect More Signatures

An Ohio marijuana legalization campaign is just 679 valid signatures short of putting its initiative on the November ballot, according to state officials. The Coalition to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol (CTRMLA) turned in over 220,000 signatures, but only 123,367 were verified, falling short of the required 124,046 signatures. However, the campaign successfully met the county threshold in 49 out of 44 counties. Activists now have 10 additional days to collect the remaining signatures needed to qualify for the ballot. The proposed ballot measure would legalize possession of up to 2.5 ounces of cannabis for adults, allow personal cultivation, impose a 10% sales tax, and establish a Division of Cannabis Control.
