SBA Proposal Would Raise IT and Consulting Size Thresholds, Expanding Small Business Pool

The Small Business Administration has proposed a major overhaul of size standards that would significantly raise revenue thresholds for IT and consulting firms. This change could allow approximately 37,000 additional federal contractors to qualify as small businesses, expanding the pool of eligible firms for set-aside contracts. The proposal consolidates numerous six-digit NAICS codes into broader four- and five-digit categories, shifting some metrics from receipts to employee counts. While this provides larger firms with more room to grow before losing small business status, it may intensify competition for limited set-aside opportunities.
