Freedom250, aligned with Trump’s team, filled the gap by backing the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library opening and related events, while the Smithsonian shifted its Folklife Festival to a nationwide approach rather to a single Mall showcase. Despite the funding shortfall, America250 persists with civic programming (Field Trip, America Gives, Time Capsule, National Birthday Cake at the Library of Congress) and a high-profile finale from Freedom250, including a massive fireworks display, under a banner of “no politics, just purpose.”

Folk Music Takes Center Stage at Smithsonian and Maryland Festivals.

The Smithsonian Folklife Festival is featuring a series of free evening concerts celebrating the Ozarks region and diverse spiritual traditions across the U.S. from June 29 to July 4 and July 6 to 9. The concerts will include a variety of genres, from country rock to bluegrass and gospel music, and will be followed by community square dancing. Some concerts will also include short film screenings, and all will have ASL interpretation and live captioning.
