Study: SpaceX Starship's Sonic Boom Risks Structural Damage

A study by Brigham Young University, published in JASA Express Letters, measured the sound levels of SpaceX's Starship during its fifth test flight, revealing it to be significantly louder than other rockets, including the Falcon 9 and NASA's Space Launch System (SLS). The Starship's launch noise was found to be ten times greater than Falcon 9 and four to six times louder than SLS, with the sound at 10 km distance comparable to a rock concert. The study suggests that the arrangement of rocket nozzles may contribute to the increased loudness.

The Dangers of Noise: How to Assess and Protect Your Health.

Chronic noise exposure is a health risk that can contribute to cardiovascular disease and other health issues. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has developed the NIOSH Sound Level Meter app for iOS to help workers prevent hearing loss, but its measurements are just as helpful for detecting systemic risks. The app measures sound energy and not audio, and its accuracy was verified in an acoustics laboratory and published in a scientific journal. To protect yourself from noise exposure, replace old windows with double-pane glass, apply foam insulation to noisy rooms, sleep in rooms as far away from the roadway as possible, invest in heavy window drapes and thick rugs to reduce vibration, and buy earplugs.
