Southampton Manager Eckert Retained After FA Suspends Spygate Ban
Southampton manager Tonda Eckert has been granted a suspended six-week ban and a £28,000 fine by an FA independent commission for his role in the 'Spygate' scandal. The commission accepted his plea of guilty and cited 'genuine contrition' as key mitigating factors, allowing him to retain his position. While the FA had sought a three-month ban, the panel reduced the penalty significantly, noting that a lengthy suspension would likely result in his dismissal. The club welcomed the outcome, though owner Dragan Solak criticized the EFL for its earlier harsher treatment of the club. Eckert remains free to coach, with the ban only triggering if he is involved in further spying before the end of next season.
