Florida Braces for Life-Threatening Flooding as Rainfall Soars

Southeast Florida, particularly Fort Lauderdale, is experiencing extreme rain and flooding as a significant storm hits the region. The National Weather Service has issued flood watches and a Level 3 out of 4 risk of flash flooding. Heavy rain is expected to continue, with the potential for rates of up to 1 to 3 inches per hour. Fort Lauderdale is on track to break its annual rainfall record, with over 101 inches of rain this year. Another 8 inches of rain is projected, and dangerous surf conditions and minor coastal flooding are expected. The storm system may develop tropical characteristics as it moves towards the Bahamas and potentially impacts the North Carolina Outer Banks and Atlantic Canada.
