Shimano debuts SPD-SLR: a redesigned road clipless system with lower stack and faster engagement
Shimano unveils the SPD-SLR road clipless system for Dura-Ace and Ultegra, featuring a redesigned pedal platform and cleat that reduce stack height by about 2.3 mm, offer faster engagement, and lighter cleats. The new system is not cross-compatible with SPD-SL, and photos show four cleat variants (CL-SL100/110/120/130) with 0°, 6°, 2° floats and a fixed option, plus a version that preserves some fore/aft adjust via the shoe. The PD-R9300 (Dura-Ace) and PD-R8200 (Ultegra) pedals aim for stiffer, more efficient power transfer, with improved bearings and a lighter, lower-profile design. Shimano also launches S-Phyre SH-RC910 and SH-RC810 shoes built to the system’s Dynalast 2.0 fit. Prices listed include £199.99 for the Dura-Ace pedal, £139.99 for Ultegra, and £24.99 for cleats, with shoes priced at £389.99 (RC9) and £319.99 (RC810). Shimano says SPD-SL will continue to be supported, while SPD-SLR is designed to be paired with SPD-SLR shoes and cleats for optimal performance.
