FBI probes Philadelphia home after two children found living in squalor
Federal agents executed a search warrant at a Northeast Philadelphia home and found two children, ages 5 and 8 months, living in unsanitary conditions with a strong odor. A mother and father were taken into custody on child endangerment charges. Authorities recovered and cared for animals on the scene (38 cats and a dog), though officials later clarified that no animals were deceased. The children were hospitalized and placed in the care of the Department of Human Services as investigators pursue both federal and local charges; utilities were shut off and firearms and other evidence were removed as part of the investigation.
