ICC Suspends Sri Lanka Cricket Membership Over Government Interference

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has been suspended by the International Cricket Council (ICC) due to extensive government interference in SLC administration. The ICC Board determined that SLC is in serious breach of its obligations as a member and will decide the conditions of the suspension in due course. This decision comes after Sri Lanka's poor performance at the World Cup. SLC had requested the ICC to take this extreme step, and the ICC continues to recognize SLC president Shammi Silva as the elected representative. Sri Lanka's sports minister has also been involved in the affairs of SLC. This is the second time in four years that a Full Member has been suspended by the ICC for government interference, following Zimbabwe Cricket in 2019.
