Global investment in AI fell for the second year in a row in 2023, with both private and corporate investment in the AI industry on the decline. However, some AI ventures continue to attract substantial investments, and more AI startups are receiving funding than ever before. The slowdown in AI investing reflects the recognition that the industry is still navigating the early phases of its evolution and practical implementation across industries. Despite the general malaise within AI investor circles, funding for generative AI startups reached $25.2 billion in 2023, nearly ninefold the investment in 2022, and accounted for over a quarter of all AI-related investments.
