SpaceX Launch Causes Ecological Havoc, Say Wildlife Officials
Wildlife officials have reported significant damage to the local environment following SpaceX's Starship launch in April. The launch left behind concrete chunks, foot-deep craters, and a 385-acre debris field, causing a 3.5-acre fire and burning four acres of a nearby Texas state park. Blue land crabs and seven bobwhite quail eggs were incinerated, raising concerns about the proximity of SpaceX's rocket base to endangered species. Environmental groups have sued the FAA for failing to perform an adequate environmental review. SpaceX's decision not to use flame-suppression technology resulted in the destruction of the launchpad. The FAA has grounded further attempts and is conducting an investigation.
