Louisiana suit could erase online abortion-pill access nationwide
Louisiana is asking the 5th Circuit to overturn FDA rules that allow telehealth prescribing and mail delivery of mifepristone, arguing they undermine its abortion ban. If the suit or similar actions by other states prevail, online and mailed abortion pills could be blocked nationwide, eroding access in states where abortion remains legal and forcing reliance on clinics. Advocates warn this would strain healthcare systems, raise costs, and worsen delays, especially for rural residents, while opponents say it tramples state sovereignty and existing protections for access.
