Major Banks Settle $499 Million Stock Lending Dispute

Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, Morgan Stanley, and UBS have agreed to a $499 million settlement in an antitrust lawsuit filed by investors who accused them of colluding to suppress competition in the stock lending market. The settlement also includes EquiLend, a joint venture between the defendants. Credit Suisse, now owned by UBS, settled for approximately $81 million last year, while Bank of America remains a defendant in the case.

"Banks Reach $500mn Settlement in Stock-Lending Lawsuit"

Several banks have reached a near $500 million settlement in a stock-lending lawsuit. The lawsuit alleged that the banks conspired to limit competition in the stock-lending market, resulting in artificially low rates for customers. The settlement is subject to court approval and would resolve claims against Bank of America, Barclays, BNP Paribas, Citigroup, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, HSBC, JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley, Royal Bank of Canada, Royal Bank of Scotland, and UBS.
