French student fined in Singapore for viral straw-lick stunt
A 19-year-old French student, Didier Gaspard Owen Maximilien, pleaded guilty in Singapore to a public nuisance charge for filming himself licking a straw from an orange-juice vending machine and returning it as a social-media stunt; he was fined SGD 600 (about USD 465), with prosecutors seeking the maximum SGD 2,000 and no community-based sentence ordered. The incident occurred at a shopping mall in March; Maximilien studies in Singapore but will be in France later this year, and immigration authorities will decide on his student pass. The vending-machine operator sanitized the dispenser, replaced 500 straws, and may upgrade machines to individually packaged straws.
