Glen Schofield Blames Krafton for Rushing The Callisto Protocol Amid Pandemic
Glen Schofield, creator of Dead Space, has publicly blamed publisher Krafton for forcing the early release of The Callisto Protocol. In a recent interview, Schofield stated that Krafton revoked a promised three-month development extension, compelling him to ship the game in December 2022 despite ongoing pandemic disruptions. He cited severe staffing shortages, including the loss of his rendering team in Spain, as factors that compromised the game's quality. Schofield also criticized Krafton for mandating a costly PS4 port during a global chip shortage and for lacking the infrastructure to publish single-player titles. Although the game received mixed reviews, Schofield noted that he released 86 patches post-launch to address issues, a effort Krafton allegedly overlooked while deeming the title a financial failure. This conflict contributed to Schofield's departure from Striking Distance Studios in 2023 and his subsequent retirement from game development.
