A group of presidents and chancellors from historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) in the US have expressed interest in partnering with Israeli institutions of higher learning after being impressed by Israeli research and innovation during a recent trip. They plan to send students to study-abroad programs at Israeli universities and have faculty exchange knowledge and conduct joint research with Israeli professors and researchers. The educational leaders believe that even sending one or two students can have a significant impact on their lives and the individuals they interact with. The trip was organized by the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, and the group visited various Israeli institutions, including Hebrew University and Tel Aviv University.

Ma's trip is mostly about student exchanges and paying respects to the graves of his ancestors in China. The KMT positions itself as the Taiwan party that has the best working relationship with Beijing.
