Black Universities Seek Collaborative Exchanges with Israeli Science Community

A group of presidents and chancellors from historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) in the US have expressed interest in partnering with Israeli institutions of higher learning after being impressed by Israeli research and innovation during a recent trip. They plan to send students to study-abroad programs at Israeli universities and have faculty exchange knowledge and conduct joint research with Israeli professors and researchers. The educational leaders believe that even sending one or two students can have a significant impact on their lives and the individuals they interact with. The trip was organized by the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, and the group visited various Israeli institutions, including Hebrew University and Tel Aviv University.

Former Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou, of the opposition Kuomintang party, plans to visit China from March 27 until April 7, becoming the first former Taiwan leader to visit China since 1949. The visit comes amid heightened tensions across the Taiwan Strait as Beijing ramps up pressure on Taiwan, which it considers part of its territory. Ma's trip is mostly about student exchanges and paying respects to the graves of his ancestors in China. The KMT positions itself as the Taiwan party that has the best working relationship with Beijing.

Ma willing to meet with leaders during China visit.

Former Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou will visit China from March 27 to April 7, becoming the first former or current Taiwanese president to visit China since the defeated Republic of China government fled to Taiwan in 1949. The trip comes at a time of heightened tensions between Beijing and Taipei as China keeps up military and political pressure to try and get democratic Taiwan to accept Chinese sovereignty. The trip is mostly about student exchanges and to pay respects to the graves of Ma's ancestors in China.
