"Unprecedented Documentation of Volcanic Sulfur Flows in Northern Chile"

A team of vulcanologists studying the Lastarria volcano in northern Chile observed and recorded the rare occurrence of sulfur flows. These flows, consisting of molten sulfur, are less common and less dramatic than lava flows. The researchers found three independent sulfur flows, measuring approximately 55 meters in length and with temperatures ranging from 120°C to 150°C. They suggest that the sulfur flows may be caused by hotter gases melting the sulfur and speculate that they could serve as a secondary sign of an impending eruption.
