NCERT removes democracy, evolution, and periodic table from Indian school textbooks.
India's National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has removed the periodic table of elements and environmental sustainability from the school syllabus for around 134 million students aged 11-18. The NCERT had earlier removed evolution from the curriculum, sparking a protest. Experts have criticized the move, saying the removed topics are more relevant than ever today. The NCERT cited "syllabus rationalization" as the reason for removing certain topics from the textbooks.
