
Freddy Cannon, 'Palisades Park' Rock & Roll Icon, Dies at 89
Freddy “Boom Boom” Cannon, the Boston-born rock & roll singer behind hits like Tallahassee Lassie and Palisades Park and a longtime American Bandstand staple, died July 17 in a California hospice after a brief battle with cancer at age 89. Cannon helped define the upbeat post-Elvis sound, appeared on numerous TV music shows, influenced future stars, and remained musically active up to his death; he is survived by his children Conny Weber and Billy Cannon, among other family.
