Neglected Utah Teen Dies from Treatable Infection.
A 17-year-old girl died at Diamond Ranch Academy in Utah due to peritonitis, an infection of the abdomen tissue, which is usually easily treated with antibiotics. Despite experiencing symptoms for days, the managers at the youth residential treatment center refused her medical attention, and her pleas for help were punished. The family's lawyer said staff was also begging management to take her to a hospital for days before she died, but she was never taken. The parents have filed a lawsuit against the teen treatment center for negligence.
