Scientists Develop Telomouse with Human-Like Telomeres

Scientists at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem have developed a genetically modified mouse model called the "Telomouse" by altering a single gene in standard lab mice. This modification allows the telomeres in the mice to resemble those in humans more closely, providing a valuable resource for studying aging and cancer. The Telomouse model highlights the importance of the RTEL1 protein in determining telomere length and may lead to new insights into the genetics of aging and potential strategies for combating cancer. Additionally, the researchers developed a novel method called NanoTelSeq for measuring the length of individual telomeres, which could improve diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment for patients with cancer and aging diseases.
