COVID-19 Booster Recommendations for All Ages and Conditions

The community risk of COVID-19 in Travis County and most jurisdictions around the country is low, and the CDC recorded the lowest number of COVID-19 deaths since March 25, 2020. The Texas Department of State Health Services recommends getting another booster shot only if you are 65 or older or have a condition that would mean you are moderate to severely immunocompromised. For most people, one dose of the Bivalent vaccine is recommended. The Bivalent vaccine still provides good protection against the currently circulating strains, and if COVID-19 numbers continue to stay low, vaccinations for the illness will likely become a yearly, scheduled routine, similar to what we see with other respiratory illnesses, such as the flu.
