Supreme Court Upholds Access to Abortion Pill in Recent Ruling
The Supreme Court has temporarily halted lower court rulings that would have restricted the abortion pill, mifepristone, as an appeal moves forward in a case with profound implications for abortion access and the FDA's regulatory authority. The case could ultimately have profound implications, even for states where abortion is legal, as well as for the FDA's regulatory authority over other drugs. The Biden administration had asked the Supreme Court to intervene after the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit let stand a number of restrictions in the Texas ruling, even as it said it would allow the pill to remain on the market.
