Three-alarm blaze near Ballard-Fremont draws 100+ firefighters
A wind-driven three-alarm fire damaged a commercial building near the Ballard-Fremont border in Seattle, drawing more than 100 firefighters. The blaze forced a defensive stance after the south-side roof collapsed, and Fireboat 1 pumped water from the Lake Washington Ship Canal to assist. The flames were brought under control by about 7:39 p.m.; one firefighter was lightly injured and no hospital transport was needed. The cause is under investigation, and crews remained overnight to monitor hotspots as residents were advised to close doors and windows due to smoke.
