Hong Kong Court Sentences Tiananmen Vigil Leaders to Years in Prison
Hong Kong authorities have sentenced three former leaders of the Hong Kong Alliance to prison terms of up to seven years and three months for organizing annual vigils commemorating the 1989 Tiananmen crackdown. The convictions under Beijing’s national security law mark the end of a decades-long tradition of public mourning in the city and signal a further tightening of political dissent in the territory.
