Man charged with murder after 7-year-old opens door to find mother dead in Washington Heights
Tiliek Thompson, 41, was charged with second-degree murder, first-degree assault, strangulation, and child endangerment following the death of Lovay Williams, 27, in her Washington Heights apartment. Police discovered Williams’ body during a wellness check on September 6, finding her unconscious and pronounced dead at the scene. Her 7-year-old daughter, who was present during the incident, opened the door for officers. Thompson surrendered to police on September 12 and was arraigned on September 13, where he pleaded not guilty and was held without bail. Prosecutors stated that video evidence shows Thompson entering and leaving the apartment on September 5 and 6, carrying bags, before disappearing. The victim’s family expressed outrage in court, while the defense cited online threats against the defendant.
