Competitive Eating Legend 'Eater X' Tim Janus Dies at 49
Tim Janus, the competitive eater known as 'Eater X' and a former world ranking No. 2, has died at age 49 following a battle with cancer. A Simsbury, Connecticut native who lived in New York City, Janus competed professionally from 2006 to 2018, winning titles in tiramisu, ramen, and sushi eating. He gained wider fame for competing alongside Joey Chestnut on season 30 of 'The Amazing Race' in 2017. Janus was inducted into the Major League Eating Hall of Fame in 2016 and had recently been accepted into the U.S. Foreign Service before his illness prevented him from serving abroad.
