Surprising Source of Ocean Microplastics Revealed by Yale Study
A study conducted by the Yale School of the Environment reveals that tire dust, microscopic particles that break down and wear off tires over time, account for a staggering 78% of ocean microplastics. The study also found that a car's four tires emit one trillion particles for every kilometer driven, and with the expected increase in tire production, the number of tires made each year is projected to reach 3.4 billion by the end of the decade.
