Bitcoin ETF Filings Face SEC Scrutiny and Setbacks
Several traditional finance giants in the United States, including BlackRock, WisdomTree, Invesco, Valkyrie, VanEck, Fidelity Digital Assets, Ark Invest, and 21Shares, have filed for spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) applications with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in the past two weeks. BlackRock's filing, which mentioned Coinbase Custody and BNY Mellon as custodians, sparked renewed interest and triggered a Bitcoin rally. A spot Bitcoin ETF directly tracks the price of BTC and would allow investors exposure to the cryptocurrency without the need to physically buy and hold it. The SEC has previously rejected spot Bitcoin ETFs due to concerns about fraud, investor protection, and market manipulation.
