Tennessee's Battle to Protect Children from Trans Procedures and Explicit Performances
Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti has taken legal action to defend state laws protecting children from transgender procedures and sexually explicit performances after federal judges limited both measures. Skrmetti filed an appeal against a ruling that struck down a law related to sexually explicit performances, arguing that the language in question has been in the Tennessee code for 33 years and is used in other laws to protect children from harmful content. He also filed a motion for an emergency stay after a temporary injunction was placed on Tennessee's ban on cross-sex hormones and puberty blockers for children. Skrmetti aims to ensure that Tennessee's laws continue to protect children while the legal battles unfold. Similar state laws have been blocked in Kentucky, Florida, Indiana, and Arkansas.
