Nebraska State Senator Julie Slama has proposed censuring her colleague, Senator Machaela Cavanaugh, for characterizing a trans youth bill as akin to genocide. The bill, introduced by Senator Kathleen Kauth, would ban gender-altering care for transgender youth. Cavanaugh has vowed to filibuster every bill for the rest of the session, which has frustrated other lawmakers. Speaker John Arch has said the Legislature will not take up the matter of censuring Cavanaugh. Senators have been warned to expect late nights starting March 28 to get more accomplished.
