Perry pushes repeal of Biden-era impairment-monitoring car mandate

Rep. Scott Perry introduced the No Kill Switches in Cars Act to roll back the Biden-era requirement that all new cars include passive impairment-monitoring technology capable of remotely stopping a vehicle if the driver is impaired. Perry argues the mandate violates civil liberties and increases costs, while acknowledging drunk-driving concerns; Mothers Against Drunk Driving opposes the premise of a “kill switch.” The rule, part of the Infrastructure Act, faces ongoing review by NHTSA, which has previously said no commercially available, reliably accurate impairment-detection tech exists yet. The bill gains GOP co-sponsors, but critics warn it could undermine public-safety efforts and privacy protections.
