Winter Beckons as Heating-Oil Bills Surge Across Rural UK
Rising heating-oil prices driven by geopolitical tensions, notably Iran, threaten winter bills for thousands of households in Devon and Cornwall, with heating oil jumping from about 60p to around 97p per litre and 41,000 Devon homes relying on it; similar pressures hit Guernsey and Jersey. The UK government has pledged £53m to heating-oil support, £1bn for the Crisis and Resilience Fund, and red-diesel relief for farming, while local schemes and advice services urge households to seek help to weather the coming colder months.
