Researchers at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory have developed ultra-pure electronic cables with extremely low levels of radioactive contaminants, reducing background noise for neutrino and dark matter detectors. These cables, which are a hundred times cleaner than current commercially available options, have applications not only in physics experiments but also in reducing the interference of ionizing radiation in future quantum computers. The cables have been meticulously designed and manufactured to eliminate interfering radioactivity, increasing the sensitivity of experiments and allowing more flexibility in detector design. The researchers hope that these advancements will bring them closer to solving the mysteries of dark matter and neutrinoless double beta decay.
