"Deep-sea Discovery: Unraveling the Mystery of the Octopus's Garden"

Scientists have discovered the reason behind the clustering of tens of thousands of pearl octopuses on the foothills of an underwater mountain off the coast of California. These octopuses gather near warm water seeping through the seabed, which accelerates the hatching of their eggs. Researchers from the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) used a remotely operated deep-diving robot to gather evidence supporting this theory. The warm water comes from hydrothermal springs, providing optimal conditions for the eggs to hatch in less than two years, significantly increasing the survival chances of the baby octopuses. The discovery highlights the importance of protecting these deep-sea octopus nurseries from potential threats such as trawling and deep-sea mining.
