G20 Summit: Tensions Rise Over Russia-Ukraine Conflict
Members of the G20 have drafted a joint statement expressing support for "territorial integrity and sovereignty" in the Russia-Ukraine war, which is expected to be included in the final communique pending approval from world leaders. The statement also references adherence to the United Nations charter and highlights the impact of the war on food prices and food security. The draft text was agreed upon after significant negotiations and entreaties from the US and European leaders. Additionally, a groundbreaking deal on a shipping and rail-transportation corridor stretching from India to Europe, aimed at helping the Middle East reform and develop, was announced. The G20 also welcomed the African Union as a permanent member.
