Russian Military Deploys Explosive-laden Tanks and Robots in Ukraine Conflict
Russia appears to be using T-54/55 tanks as vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (VBIEDs) against Ukrainian positions, filling them with explosives and detonating them remotely. The use of armored vehicles as VBIEDs offers greater survivability and the ability to carry large loads of explosives. While the T-54/55 tanks are nearly 80 years old and no match for modern anti-tank weapons, Russia has large stocks of them and can easily adapt them for this role. The effectiveness of this tactic is unclear, but it could be an emerging new trend in the conflict.
