
Charlotte mayor Vi Lyles to step down in June, opening race for a new leader
Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles, 73, will resign effective June 30 after a long tenure marked by transit funding, affordable housing gains, and a racial-equity initiative; health questions and reduced public appearances cited, she says it's time to spend more time with family. The City Council will appoint an interim, Democrat, to finish her term and set the stage for the next mayoral race.
