WestJet Flight Attendants End Strike After Tentative Wage Pact

Canada’s CUPE union representing 4,400 WestJet flight attendants reached a tentative wage agreement with the airline, ending a strike that had led to hundreds of canceled flights. Details will be shared with members ahead of a ratification vote; the deal reportedly expands pay to cover time at check-in as well as in-flight work and includes general wage increases. WestJet had canceled about 615 flights through Aug. 4 amid the disruption, and previously offered a 13% raise this year followed by 2.5% annually through 2029 plus additional pay for all hours worked.

German Public Sector Workers to Receive Pay Increase in New Deal

The German government, local authorities, and trade unions have agreed on a wage deal for the country's 2.5 million public-sector workers, avoiding the possibility of indefinite strikes. Municipalities fear the deal may pose new financial challenges for them. Ver.di had initially asked for a 10.5 percent raise and at least €500 more pay over a twelve-month period.

Canada's Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) union has set a deadline of 9 p.m. ET on Tuesday for a wage deal with the federal government, or 155,000 public workers will go on strike at midnight on Wednesday. The strike would affect federal services and could delay tax refunds since about 35,000 workers at the revenue agency would walk out in the middle of tax filing season. Passport renewals ahead of summer travel could also be delayed.
